Firehouse Subs is entering the Australian market under Retail Food Group (RFG), Australia’s largest multi-brand retail food franchisor.

The brand plans an aggressive expansion with 165 restaurants targeted over 10 years, with the first store opening in Southeast Queensland in late 2025.

RFG will initially operate company-owned stores before launching franchising opportunities in the fourth year of operation.

How the Franchise Started?

Firehouse Subs was founded in 1994 in Jacksonville, Florida, by brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, both former firefighters.

Inspired by their firefighting heritage, the brand focused on hearty, made-to-order sandwiches with premium meats and cheeses, often served hot and steamed to enhance flavor.

Firehouse Subs grew rapidly in the US and internationally, becoming known for its large portions and commitment to public safety by donating to first responder charities.
