Subway Australia has named Jonathan Fitzpatrick as its new Chief Executive Officer, starting July 28, 2025. The appointment follows a global executive search as the brand prepares for its next stage of growth.

Fitzpatrick brings over 20 years of franchise leadership experience, including roles as CEO of Driven Brands and a senior executive at Burger King. His appointment follows major industry gatherings such as SUBCON25, which highlighted innovation and growth across the franchise sector.

This leadership change comes as Subway looks to grow its presence across Australia and strengthen support for its franchisees. The appointment also reflects the continued evolution of the country’s quick-service sector, with increased competition among leading burger franchises in Australia and other fast-food brands expanding nationwide. Fitzpatrick will work alongside Interim CEO Carrie Walsh during the transition.

“I’m honoured to lead this iconic brand,” said Fitzpatrick. “I’m excited to work with franchisees and employees to grow Subway and deliver better results.”

Subway Australia has outlined three key areas of focus under Jonathan Fitzpatrick’s leadership.

  1. Innovation; will be central to the brand’s growth strategy, with an emphasis on refreshing the menu, enhancing digital ordering, and improving customer experience across all touchpoints.
  2. Sales growth; remains a top priority. Fitzpatrick is expected to implement strategies that drive revenue through operational efficiency, brand visibility, and stronger local marketing efforts.
  3. Franchisee profitability; this will also take center stage. Subway aims to provide better support, improved business models, and greater collaboration to help its franchise partners thrive.

These focus areas reflect Fitzpatrick’s leadership style and track record—and set the tone for Subway’s next phase of regional growth.
