7-Eleven

Invest With Confidence

About the Franchise

7-Eleven Australia operates a large network of both franchise and company-owned convenience stores, offering everyday essentials, food-to-go items, drinks (including its signature Slurpee® and $1 coffee), and in many locations, petrol/fuel services.

As of 2022, the Australian network had over 720 stores and more than 8,800 employees across the country.

The franchisor provides extensive support to franchisees, including store site selection, complete store fit-outs, supply-chain systems, merchandising guidance, marketing programs, and ongoing operational assistance.

A major milestone occurred on 1 April 2024, when 7-Eleven Australia was officially acquired by 7-Eleven International, making the Australian division a wholly owned subsidiary of the global parent company and strengthening its long-term strategic direction.

How the Franchise Started?

7-Eleven’s introduction to Australia began in 1976, when the Withers and Barlow families secured the licensing rights to bring the global convenience-store brand to the country.

Just one year later, on 24 August 1977, Australia’s first 7-Eleven store officially opened in Oakleigh, Victoria, marking the arrival of a new 24/7 retail model in the local market.

The chain quickly expanded its operating hours and, in 1978, launched its first 24-hour store, strengthening its identity as a round-the-clock convenience retailer.

Over the decades, 7-Eleven developed a strong franchise system supported by centralised logistics, store development, and retail operations — eventually growing into one of the country’s largest convenience networks.
