🍔 Wendy’s Enters Australian Market with 200-Store Expansion Plan

Sydney, Australia – April 29, 2025 – Global fast-food giant Wendy’s is set to make a significant re-entry into the Australian market with plans to open 200 Wendy’s franchise locations in Australia starting in 2025.

This marks one of the largest international expansions in the brand’s history and positions Wendy’s as a notable new competitor in Australia’s quick-service restaurant (QSR) sector, which is valued at over $20 billion.

The expansion will be led by Flynn Restaurant Group, the largest franchise operator in the United States, marking its first venture into international markets. Flynn Restaurant Group brings extensive operational expertise, overseeing more than 2,600 restaurants across various brands, including Taco Bell, Panera Bread, and Applebee’s.

“Wendy’s has identified Australia as a high-potential growth market with a sophisticated consumer base and strong demand for premium quick-service offerings,” stated Abigail Pringle, President of International and Chief Development Officer at The Wendy’s Company. “Partnering with Flynn Restaurant Group provides us with the scale and proven systems necessary to establish a competitive, franchise-driven model here.”

Wendy’s strategy for Australia includes:
– A flagship store launch in 2025, followed by rapid rollouts in key urban and suburban locations.
– A focus on fresh, never-frozen beef, signature square burgers, and Wendy’s iconic Frosty desserts.
– A robust franchise model backed by world-class supply chain, training, and marketing systems.
Aggressive positioning in a competitive market, directly competing with McDonald’s, Hungry Jack’s, and KFC.

Wendy’s previously had a limited presence in Australia, exiting the market in the early 2000s. However, the new strategy reflects a modernized, long-term approach that capitalizes on global QSR trends such as menu innovation, localized formats, and premium convenience.

For franchise investors, the launch of Wendy’s presents a unique opportunity to partner with a globally recognized brand, supported by a high-performing multi-unit operator with a clear path to growth.
